Morocco launches nationwide 'Pass Jeunes' initiative to enhance youth opportunities
Morocco has rolled out its "Pass Jeunes" initiative nationwide, offering comprehensive benefits to young citizens through a digital platform. Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid announced the expansion during a ceremony in Rabat attended by ministers, political leaders, and cultural business figures.
The program, accessible through a free mobile application, targets Moroccans aged 16 to 30, providing access to cultural, sports, transport, and accommodation services across the country. Each digital wallet comes preloaded with an initial balance of MAD 500 ($50) and offers annual credits between MAD 4,000 to MAD 5,000 ($400 to $500).
Program participants receive additional yearly allocations, including MAD 900 ($90) for discounted train and bus travel and MAD 400 ($40) for sporting events, including football matches. The platform also provides discounted access to historical monuments, archaeological sites, and museums.
The initiative, which began in Rabat three years ago, has already attracted over 250,000 young Moroccan subscribers. Originally limited to Rabat and Sale, the program now operates nationwide, significantly expanding its reach and accessibility.
Bensaid emphasized that the Pass Jeunes program extends beyond service access, addressing the broader aspirations of Morocco's youth for economic integration. The success of the initiative stems from collaboration between youth, regional councils, public institutions, and the private sector.
Looking ahead, the government aims to reach 2.6 million youth by 2026, representing nearly one-third of the 8.5 million eligible young Moroccans. The program's implementation involves partnerships with regional councils to ensure services are adapted to local contexts, promoting equal opportunities for youth across the country.
