Spanish transport minister highlights strategic scope of partnership with Morocco
Spanish Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, emphasized on Wednesday the increasingly strategic significance of the partnership between Spain and Morocco, noting that bilateral relations are currently “at their best point in decades.”
Speaking at the closing session of the Spain–Morocco Economic Meeting held at the headquarters of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE), Puente highlighted the positive momentum shaping cooperation between the two neighboring nations. He recalled the adoption of the bilateral roadmap in 2022 and the successful High-Level Meeting held in Rabat in 2023 as key milestones in strengthening ties.
The minister underscored that the new meeting scheduled for Thursday in Madrid reflects the continuity of high-level political dialogue and the shared commitment to deepen collaboration based on mutual respect and complementarity.
Regarding transport and infrastructure, Puente pointed to the growing involvement of Spanish companies in Morocco’s flagship projects. He cited, among others, the contribution of Spanish engineering firms to the ongoing modernization and expansion of Casablanca’s international airport.
He praised Morocco’s “ambitious investment plan” aimed at upgrading national infrastructure and consolidating the country’s position as a regional hub, stressing that this dynamic benefits both the business community and Moroccan citizens.
Puente also noted the high quality of the Moroccan–Spanish economic partnership, which he said is built on equality and mutual recognition. He highlighted the significant progress Morocco has achieved over the past decades, describing it as a foundation for deeper collaboration.
“The strategic partnership between Rabat and Madrid is not only essential for both countries but also for Europe and Africa as a whole,” he stated, adding that joint action could “help shape a new Euro-African dynamic.”
The business gathering, organized on the eve of the 13th High-Level Meeting between the two countries, brought together government officials and leading business figures from both sides, demonstrating a shared determination to further strengthen bilateral economic cooperation.
