Planas highlights strong Morocco-Spain relations based on shared interests and cooperation
Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, Luis Planas, emphasized on Wednesday in Madrid that the relations between Morocco and Spain are rooted not only in shared interests but also in friendship and close cooperation.
Speaking at a business meeting held on the eve of the 13th Morocco-Spain High-Level Meeting, Planas highlighted the importance of ongoing dialogue and consultation in advancing bilateral ties. He stressed that these gatherings allow entrepreneurs and economic actors from both countries to strengthen connections and explore new opportunities in areas of mutual interest.
According to Planas, commercial exchanges between Morocco and Spain have more than doubled over the last decade, with trade in the agricultural sector nearly tripling. The minister noted that the upcoming high-level meeting provides a platform to deepen cooperation in agriculture and fisheries, focusing on research, development, innovation, and climate adaptation strategies.
Planas described the bilateral relationship as excellent and solid, forming a key pillar of the strategic partnership between Rabat and Madrid, built on friendship, trust, and mutual respect. He added that the partnership is crucial not only politically and diplomatically but also commercially.
The minister also highlighted the roles of Spain and Morocco within their respective regional organizations, emphasizing Spain’s advocacy for balanced and sustainable cooperation with Morocco within the European Union framework. He recalled that the EU-Morocco Association Agreement, in force since 2000, provides a strong basis for political and commercial dialogue.
