Morocco hosts pivotal meeting on two-state solution for Palestinian statehood
Morocco is set to host a significant meeting on the future of Palestinian statehood this Tuesday in Rabat. The fifth meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution will convene high-ranking political officials, special envoys, and representatives from international organizations to explore pathways toward peace in a region currently engulfed in crisis due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the West Bank.
Organized in partnership with the Netherlands, this meeting provides a vital platform for participants to address several pressing topics. Discussions will encompass the impact of Middle East peace processes, strategies to support Palestinian governance structures, and the economic foundations necessary for lasting peace in the region.
The gathering is designed to serve as a launchpad for projects and initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable peace in the Middle East. Organizers anticipate that attendees will formulate concrete policy recommendations to bolster diplomatic efforts and establish conditions conducive to the effective implementation of the two-state solution.
Additionally, conclusions drawn from this meeting will contribute to an upcoming high-level conference on Palestinian statehood at the United Nations headquarters in New York in June 2025.
Originally launched during the UN General Assembly High-Level Week in September last year, the Global Alliance serves as a diplomatic platform dedicated to revitalizing the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. This fifth meeting follows previous gatherings held in Riyadh, Brussels, Oslo, and Cairo.
Morocco has consistently championed the Palestinian cause, emphasizing the necessity of realizing the two-state solution. The North African nation views this framework as essential for establishing security and stability in the region. King Mohammed VI has been a steadfast advocate for this solution, which envisions an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
In light of the ongoing violence in Gaza, the king has called for all involved parties to engage in negotiations. During his address to the 34th Arab Summit in Baghdad, he urged immediate action to halt what he termed "Israeli military aggressions" against the West Bank, particularly the demolition of homes and the forced displacement of peaceful, unarmed populations residing in areas under Israeli control.
