Morocco Emerges as a Key Destination for Critical Mineral Investments
Morocco is increasingly being recognized as a prime destination for investments in the critical minerals sector. In a recent statement, the Minister for Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, highlighted the country's strategic position in the global market. Speaking at a roundtable during the 4th Future Minerals Forum in Riyadh, alongside the Saudi Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar Al-Khorayef, Benali emphasized the importance of promoting sustainability and strengthening international cooperation.
She stressed that securing the supply of critical minerals depends on specific conditions, including recycling and optimizing market interconnections, which can ultimately enable the delivery of minerals at competitive costs.
Benali also pointed out that Morocco is among the five countries playing a vital role in reshaping global value chains. Furthermore, Morocco stands as the only African nation currently interconnected with Europe and the Atlantic Basin in logistics, culture, and energy.
Morocco’s strategic role is underscored by its capacity to serve as a platform for major geopolitical blocs. This not only facilitates industrial investment but also fosters research and development, especially through artificial intelligence technologies and efficient management of electrical networks.
The Minister concluded by noting the importance of Morocco’s position as a key player in attracting investments in the critical minerals sector. She also recalled the robust partnership between Morocco and Saudi Arabia in mining research and exploitation, which was initiated during the first Future Minerals Forum.
The "OTC Corridor" initiative, a strategic framework based on origin, transit, and certification principles, aims to make sustainability a shared global goal.
