Morocco's Strategic Role in Interpol-Led Counter-Terrorism Operation Yields Major Results

In a significant development in global security efforts, Morocco has played a pivotal role in a joint counter-terrorism operation led by Interpol, known as “Neptune VI,” which spanned two weeks and involved collaboration among 14 nations. This initiative resulted in the arrest of 66 suspects and the identification of 81 individuals subject to outstanding arrest warrants.

The operation focused on monitoring the activities of foreign terrorist fighters and criminal organizations engaged in transnational crimes, including drug trafficking and arms smuggling. A staggering 12 million data points were analyzed, culminating in the apprehension of 12 individuals wanted by Interpol, alongside 54 others involved in various illicit activities.

Significant seizures during the operation included 549,000 euros in undeclared cash, gold valued at 10 million euros, 25 kilograms of cannabis, 35 stolen vehicles, and a variety of firearms and ammunition. This extensive crackdown illustrates the ongoing threats posed by international crime networks and underscores the necessity of robust international cooperation.

As a member of Interpol, Morocco has consistently provided critical intelligence to assist international partners in their law enforcement efforts. In recent years, Interpol has underscored the importance of Morocco's contributions to global security, recognizing the nation’s involvement in numerous projects under its auspices. Just last month, Interpol praised Morocco’s engagement in approximately 20 significant security operations worldwide, reaffirming its commitment to international collaboration.

Further demonstrating its leadership in global security, Morocco is set to host the 93rd General Assembly of Interpol in 2025 in Marrakech, a testament to its growing influence and active participation in international law enforcement initiatives.
