Morocco-Chile economic cooperation: Omar Hejira leads high-level mission
A high-level Moroccan economic mission led by Omar Hejira, Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, is currently visiting Chile to strengthen bilateral economic and trade ties and lay the foundations for a structured, long-term strategic partnership.
This mission is part of the Morocco-Chile Economic Forum, aligning with Morocco’s 2025-2027 Foreign Trade Program and its broader strategy of diversifying partnerships and reinforcing South-South cooperation. The initiative focuses on economic integration, mutual cooperation, and increasing trade flows based on complementarity and sustainable partnerships between Morocco and Latin American countries.
During the visit, Omar Hejira met with Chilean Minister of Economy, Tourism and Energy, Alvaro Garcia Hurtado, and Vice-Minister of International Economic Relations, Claudia Sanhueza, alongside Moroccan Ambassador Kenza El Ghali. Discussions covered bilateral economic relations, cooperation prospects, and priority sectors with high growth potential.
The two sides agreed to organize the second session of the Joint Economic and Trade Commission in Morocco this year, aimed at developing a joint roadmap that leverages the strategic positioning of both countries as gateways to Africa and Latin America. The mission also included meetings with Chilean economic actors such as Frutas de Chile and ProChile, to promote sectoral partnerships, joint projects, and investment opportunities.
Omar Hejira emphasized Morocco’s strategic trade position, with over 12 free trade agreements covering more than 100 countries and nearly 3 billion consumers, reinforcing the Kingdom as a key platform linking African and global markets.
