Marseille: man wanted after alleged attack on former partner
A 40-year-old man is being sought by police in Marseille after allegedly attacking his former partner with a knife in what investigators are treating as an attempted killing.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning in the 15th arrondissement of the southern French city. The woman survived the attack, according to information reported by local media and confirmed by a source close to the case.
The suspect, who is of Algerian nationality and is reportedly subject to an obligation to leave French territory (OQTF), remains at large.
Attack reported in Marseille
The assault took place in a street in Marseille's 15th arrondissement, where the woman was allegedly attacked by her former partner.
According to the information available, the victim suffered serious injuries but survived the incident. Emergency services responded to the scene and the circumstances of the assault are now being examined by investigators.
The alleged perpetrator fled after the attack and is being actively sought by law enforcement.
Suspect remains wanted
Police are searching for the 40-year-old man as part of the investigation into the alleged attempted killing.
His reported immigration status is also part of the information surrounding the case. Authorities have indicated that he was the subject of an OQTF, a French administrative order requiring a foreign national to leave the country.
However, the existence of such an order does not by itself establish any connection between the immigration situation and the alleged assault.
Investigation under way
Investigators will now seek to reconstruct the events leading up to the attack and determine the exact circumstances of the confrontation between the former couple.
The suspect remains presumed innocent unless and until a court establishes his responsibility.
The case comes amid continued attention in France to violence against women and attacks involving former or current partners, particularly when serious physical violence is alleged.
