Medays 2025: Gambia, Liberia and Somalia honored for regional leadership
The 17th edition of the Medays International Forum, held from 26 to 29 November 2025 in Tangier under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, opened with a ceremony highlighting African leadership in regional cooperation and stability. The Amadeus Institute, organizer of the event, awarded the Medays Grand Prix 2025 to two African heads of state and granted a Special Prize to the Federal Republic of Somalia.
Adama Barrow recognized for a model partnership
Gambian President Adama Barrow received the Medays Grand Prix for his sustained commitment to strengthening ties with Morocco. Gambia was among the first nations to open a consulate general in Dakhla, a move seen as a strong and consistent endorsement of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. The award reflects a bilateral partnership built on mutual trust, strategic alignment, and long-term cooperation.
Joseph Nyuma Boakai praised for Liberia’s reconstruction
Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai was also honored with the Grand Prix Medays 2025. The distinction highlights his efforts to rebuild the political and economic foundations of Liberia as well as his approach to African diplomacy rooted in dialogue and collaboration. Liberia remains one of Morocco’s most consistent partners, reaffirmed by the opening of its consulate in Dakhla—a clear signal of support for Morocco’s territorial integrity.
Somalia distinguished for resilience and regional influence
A Special Medays Prize was awarded to the Federal Republic of Somalia, represented by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre. The recognition celebrates Somalia's resilience and its ongoing work toward political stabilization, alongside its growing influence in regional governance in East Africa. It also underlines Somalia’s support for Morocco, notably through its vote in favor of UN Security Council Resolution 2797, which endorses the Moroccan autonomy initiative as a credible solution to the Sahara issue.
