Huawei expands AI and cloud strategy at GITEX Africa 2026

Huawei used its fourth appearance at GITEX Africa in Marrakech to present an expanded technology portfolio focused on artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and digital infrastructure. The company moved beyond its traditional telecommunications focus, positioning itself as a broad technology provider targeting multiple sectors across Africa. The event, held from April 7 to 9, gathered more than 1,500 exhibitors and over 55,000 visitors, offering a platform for firms to engage directly with governments and businesses.

The company emphasized what it calls sector-specific artificial intelligence, designed to meet the operational needs of industries such as banking, healthcare, and public administration. This approach reflects a shift from generic AI tools toward specialized systems tailored for defined use cases. Executives highlighted that such targeted solutions allow institutions to integrate AI more effectively into daily operations, improving efficiency and decision-making processes.

Huawei’s showcase covered a wide range of technologies, including ICT infrastructure, cloud platforms, and intelligent computing systems. Demonstrations focused on real-world applications, such as digital banking services, smart healthcare tools, and e-government platforms. The company also presented its “One Network, One Cloud” framework, which aims to unify connectivity and data systems to support scalable digital transformation across sectors.

A key feature of the exhibition was a robotics demonstration illustrating advances in human-machine interaction. The system displayed capabilities such as real-time perception, autonomous decision-making, and adaptive learning. This reflected a broader trend toward integrating artificial intelligence into physical environments, extending its use beyond software into operational settings.

Infrastructure remained a central pillar of Huawei’s strategy. The company introduced data center network solutions designed for security and scalability, alongside all-optical networks offering high-speed, low-latency connectivity. It also highlighted storage systems and flexible infrastructure models adapted to different industries. In telecommunications, Huawei pointed to ongoing 5G expansion and the transition toward next-generation broadband technologies.

Sector-specific applications formed a major part of the presentation. In finance, Huawei promoted digital banking ecosystems combining mobile services, cloud data centers, and intelligent branch systems. In energy, it introduced solutions aimed at improving safety and efficiency in mining operations. Transportation systems focused on enabling smart mobility through integrated digital infrastructure. Education and healthcare solutions included digital learning platforms and AI-assisted diagnostic tools.

The company also targeted government institutions with e-government systems designed to enhance administrative efficiency and public service delivery. These offerings align with broader efforts to modernize governance structures through digital technologies. At the same time, Huawei stressed its involvement in renewable energy solutions, linking its technology portfolio to Morocco’s long-term development priorities.

Executives described the current phase as a post-5G transition, where connectivity, cloud, and artificial intelligence converge into integrated systems. Huawei’s strategy in Morocco includes partnerships with multiple public institutions and private sector actors, indicating a long-term approach to embedding its technologies across the national digital ecosystem. The company’s broad positioning reflects growing competition among global technology firms seeking a role in Africa’s digital transformation.
