Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Morocco’s minister delegate for digital transition and administrative reform, has received the Mediterranean Prize 2026 in the development category for her work on artificial intelligence and public sector digital transformation.

The award was presented in Fes during academic and institutional meetings focused on artificial intelligence, governance, and long-term societal change. The event took place under the patronage of King Mohammed VI and brought together policymakers, researchers, and international institutional representatives.

Organisers said the prize is awarded to figures who connect research, institutional reform, and technological development. Seghrouchni was recognised for her role in structuring digital governance frameworks and promoting cooperation between public institutions, universities, and industry actors. Her work focuses on integrating artificial intelligence into public administration to improve efficiency, transparency, and service delivery.

During the ceremony, speakers described her as part of a generation of policymakers working at the intersection of technology and governance. They highlighted her efforts to promote digital transformation policies that combine innovation with public accountability. Her contribution to digital sovereignty initiatives in Africa and her emphasis on human-centred approaches to artificial intelligence were also noted.

The Mediterranean Prize also recognised other figures in different categories. Mohamad Bin Abdoulkarim Alissa, Secretary General of the Muslim World League, received the peace and moderation category award. The United Nations Alliance of Civilisations was honoured in the institutions category. Organisers said the selections reflect efforts to strengthen intercultural dialogue and address global challenges linked to technology and governance.

The ceremony was held alongside discussions at the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fes on the impact of artificial intelligence on education systems, research structures, and public policy. Participants examined how emerging technologies are reshaping governance models across the Mediterranean region.

Seghrouchni’s recognition comes as Morocco continues to expand its national digital transformation strategy, aimed at modernising public administration and integrating artificial intelligence into state services. The award highlights the growing importance of digital governance in regional development strategies across Africa and the Mediterranean.
