Google Warns of Rise in AI-Powered Cyberattacks

Technology giant Google has warned of a worrying rise in cyber threats fueled by artificial intelligence. In a recent report published by its threat analysis group, the company claims to have identified the first known cases of hackers using advanced artificial intelligence models to discover new vulnerabilities and accelerate the development of malware.

According to the report, a cybercrime group allegedly exploited large-scale language models to detect a vulnerability in a widely used open-source tool for managing IT systems. Google specifies, however, that this attempted attack was neutralized before it could escalate into a large-scale hacking operation.

The company believes this development marks a major turning point in the field of cybersecurity. Cybercriminals are no longer limited to traditional tools: they are now delegating part of their operations to artificial intelligence systems capable of autonomously searching for software vulnerabilities, analyzing targets, and even generating malicious code with minimal human intervention.

Faced with this rapid evolution of digital threats, Google emphasizes that traditional defense methods are no longer sufficient. The company calls for the development of intelligent security systems capable of detecting and countering automated attacks in real time, arguing that the speed and sophistication of new cyberattacks now exceed purely human response capabilities.

The report also stresses the need for governments and businesses to review their cybersecurity strategies, integrating defensive artificial intelligence tools and raising user awareness of new fraud and digital intrusion techniques.

While artificial intelligence is transforming many economic sectors, Google warns that this technological revolution is also paving the way for a new generation of cyber threats—faster, more complex, and potentially more difficult to contain.
