Amazigh language: 1,000 teaching positions to be allocated in 2026

The Moroccan government has announced the allocation of 1,000 dedicated teaching positions for the Amazigh language in 2026, marking a significant step in strengthening linguistic diversity within the national education system.

The announcement was made in Rabat by the Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament and government spokesperson, Mustapha Baitas, following the weekly meeting of the Government Council. He explained that the number of positions reserved for Amazigh language teachers has increased steadily over recent years, rising from around 200 posts in 2020 to 1,000 in 2026. This growth also complements the expansion of Amazigh studies within higher education institutions.

According to the government, promoting the Amazigh language is a strategic priority aligned with national orientations aimed at preserving cultural heritage and reinforcing linguistic inclusion. Several achievements have been recorded in recent years, both in education and public administration.

Among the key measures supporting this policy is the establishment of a dedicated fund to promote the use of the Amazigh language. This fund finances programs focused on administrative modernization and the integration of Amazigh into public services, including ministries, public institutions and local authorities.

The government has also created a specialized department within the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform to oversee the development of Amazigh language usage. Initiatives include the deployment of Amazigh-speaking staff and the introduction of dedicated communication channels to facilitate access to public services.

In addition, Amazigh-speaking agents have been assigned to sectors with high public demand, such as health, justice and culture, in order to improve service delivery and ensure greater inclusiveness for citizens.
