Israel says it killed Iranian-linked commander in Lebanon strike
The Israel Defense Forces said it killed a senior commander linked to Iran during an airstrike in Lebanon on Wednesday.
According to the Israeli military, the strike targeted Hicham Abdel Karim Yassine, described as a key figure within the communications unit of Hezbollah and the Palestinian Corps affiliated with the Quds Force. The precise location of the strike was not disclosed.
In a statement posted on X, Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee said the military had “eliminated another commander of the Palestinian Corps linked to Iran’s Quds Force.”
The Israeli army added that the operation increases to five the number of members of that unit killed since the start of the operation dubbed “Roaring Lion.” According to Adraee, Yassine was also the third senior official of the Palestinian Corps killed since the beginning of the Israeli offensive.
Israeli officials claim the commander had been involved in strengthening Hezbollah’s capabilities and rebuilding its resources following the operation known as “Northern Arrows.”
He was also accused of helping expand Iran’s influence in Lebanon and promoting militant plans under the direction of the Iranian leadership.
The strike comes amid heightened tensions across the Middle East as confrontations involving Israel, Iran, and allied armed groups continue to escalate across the region.
