Razzie Awards highlight Snow White and war of the worlds remakes among worst films of 2025
The annual Golden Raspberry Awards, widely known as the Razzies, once again delivered its satirical verdict on Hollywood productions, naming several high-profile remakes among the worst films of 2025. The ceremony traditionally takes place shortly before the Academy Awards, highlighting productions that critics and audiences found disappointing.
Among the most discussed titles was the remake of Snow White, directed by Marc Webb. The film attracted attention throughout the year due to controversies and mixed reactions from viewers. At the Razzie ceremony, the production received multiple awards, including one targeting its portrayal of the seven dwarfs, which organizers described humorously as “artificial and unsettling.”
The characters were singled out for the award of worst supporting actor, while also being named worst on-screen duo, reflecting criticism about the film’s visual effects and creative choices.
Another remake that dominated the Razzie rankings was War of the Worlds, inspired by the classic science-fiction novel written by H. G. Wells. The new adaptation experimented with a modern narrative style, presenting much of the story through video calls and digital communication.
Despite its unconventional format, the film received a largely negative reception. Razzie organizers even described the production as an “unintentional comedy,” suggesting that its dramatic ambitions did not translate successfully on screen.
American rapper and actor Ice Cube, who played a leading role in the film, was awarded the Razzie for worst actor, adding to the list of critiques aimed at the project.
Created in 1981, the Razzie Awards parody the glamour of Hollywood’s biggest celebrations while offering a humorous counterpoint to prestigious ceremonies such as the Academy Awards. While the Razzies mock cinematic misfires, the Oscars celebrate the year’s most acclaimed achievements in filmmaking.
The 98th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on March 15, where international productions will also compete for recognition on one of cinema’s most prestigious stages.
