Republicans close University of Florida chapter over alleged antisemitism
The Florida Federation of College Republicans has decided to dissolve its chapter at the University of Florida following allegations of misconduct that reportedly included antisemitic behavior. The decision was announced after an internal review conducted by the statewide student political organization.
According to information shared by the university on social media, the federation concluded that the chapter had demonstrated a pattern of conduct that conflicted with its internal rules and core values. The investigation reportedly identified incidents that raised concerns about discriminatory behavior, including what was described as a recent antisemitic gesture.
Following these findings, the federation asked the university administration to deactivate the student organization temporarily. The measure is intended to allow the group to reorganize its structure and eventually relaunch the chapter under new leadership.
University officials emphasized their commitment to maintaining a campus environment free from discrimination and harassment. In a public statement, the institution reaffirmed that antisemitism and other forms of intolerance have no place within the academic community. Administrators also indicated that they would work with the federation to support the chapter’s reactivation once reforms are implemented.
The federation did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the decision.
The announcement comes amid broader concerns about discriminatory rhetoric in student political spaces. Earlier in March, Florida International University reported that authorities were examining allegations that members connected to conservative political groups exchanged racist, antisemitic, and homophobic messages in a private online chat, according to local media reports.
Observers say the recent developments highlight ongoing debates across American campuses about political activism, accountability within student organizations, and efforts by universities to address discrimination while protecting free expression.
