Celebrating five decades of work, renowned photographer Albert Watson unveils a comprehensive monograph titled “Kaos,” alongside an exhibition in Paris. The accompanying exhibition “Kaos ii” at a. galerie opened november 10 and runs until december 20. You get an immersive view of Watson’s diverse portfolio.

A kaleidoscopic portrait of photography's evolution

Watson presents his work in an unconventional way. He favors a dynamic and visually rich format that looks more like an instagram feed than a timeline. His images show Steve Jobs, Mick Jagger, Kate Moss, and Alfred Hitchcock. They also show landscapes and recent work from Rome. The selection shows Watson’s versatility and his evolution. It positions him as a pioneer with influence across genres.

From Hitchcock to global recognition

Watson’s career began with a key portrait of Alfred Hitchcock in 1973. The image became tied to his rise. Born in Edinburgh in 1942, Watson grew up blind in one eye and still built a major career in photography. He created more than 100 Vogue covers worldwide. He earned a Grammy in 1975 and an Order of the British Empire from Queen Elizabeth ii in 2015. His work shaped popular culture.

A rich collection of unpublished works and insights

The monograph includes an essay by Philippe Garner, former head of photographs at Christie’s. It features personal quotes from Watson. It includes dozens of Polaroids not published before that show his creative process. Watson’s influence reaches beyond fashion and celebrity photography. Photo District News ranks him among the most influential photographers, next to Avedon and Penn.
