“Tinder rapist” Salim Berrada sentenced to 20 years in prison on appeal
The Court of Assizes in Créteil has sentenced Salim Berrada, nicknamed by the media as the “Tinder rapist,” to 20 years in prison, the maximum penalty he faced. This sentence comes after an initial conviction of 18 years in 2024. He has also been banned permanently from French territory.
Berrada, a former Moroccan photographer, was found guilty of 13 rapes and 4 sexual assaults committed between 2014 and 2016. According to the court, he lured women through social networks and dating apps by promising photo shoots, before subjecting them to sexual violence.
The presiding judge highlighted the “extreme gravity” and “serial nature” of the crimes, pointing to Berrada’s systematic modus operandi and his lack of remorse, as he continued to deny the accusations. The court considered the lasting trauma suffered by the 17 victims, who expressed both relief and emotion at the verdict.
During the hearing, some of the plaintiffs addressed him directly. One victim told him: “You had everything. You are a waste. You chose to destroy yourself and to destroy others.”
