HM King Mohammed VI to lead Laylat al-Qadr vigil despite health constraints

HM King Mohammed VI to lead Laylat al-Qadr vigil despite health constraints

His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, will preside over a religious vigil on Thursday evening, March 27, 2025, at the Royal Palace in Rabat, in commemoration of the sacred Laylat al-Qadr, despite recent health challenges.

In a statement released by the Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol, and Chancellery, the following details were shared:

“The Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol, and Chancellery announces that His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, may God assist and glorify Him, will chair a religious vigil on Thursday evening, Ramadan 26, 1446 of the Hijri calendar, corresponding to March 27, 2025, in commemoration of the blessed Laylat al-Qadr, at the Royal Palace in Rabat.

Due to certain constraints and difficulties related to specific movements and positions following the surgery His Majesty underwent on His left shoulder, the Commander of the Faithful—may God preserve Him—will, in accordance with the Almighty’s words “Those who remember Allah while standing, sitting, and lying on their sides,” perform, God willing, the Isha and Tarawih prayers while seated.

The religious vigil will be aired live on radio and television at the time of the Al-Isha prayer.

May God preserve His Majesty the King, perpetuate upon Him the blessings of health and well-being, and fulfill Him in the persons of HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, HRH Prince Moulay Rachid, and all the members of the Illustrious Royal Family. God the All-Hearing grants the wishes of those who implore Him.”

The significance of Laylat al-Qadr

Laylat al-Qadr, known as the Night of Decree or Power, is one of the holiest nights in the Islamic calendar. It is believed to be the night when the Quran was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Muslims worldwide observe this night with prayers, recitations, and supplications, seeking blessings and forgiveness.

In Morocco, the commemoration of Laylat al-Qadr is deeply intertwined with the country's spiritual and cultural identity, with the King traditionally presiding over the vigil as a symbol of the unity between the monarchy and the religious heritage of the Kingdom.
