Tourism in Morocco: Indian arrivals surge by 224% since 2019

Morocco is rapidly strengthening its position as an attractive destination for Indian travelers, with arrivals from India soaring by 224% compared to 2019, according to figures released by the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT). The sharp increase highlights the growing strategic importance of the Indian market for the Kingdom’s tourism sector.

In 2025, Morocco welcomed 53,697 visitors from India, representing a year-on-year growth of 31%. This expansion comes amid a strong overall performance for Moroccan tourism, which recorded 19.8 million international arrivals during the year, up 14% compared to the previous year, consolidating Morocco’s status as Africa’s leading tourist destination.

Tourism officials attribute this momentum to targeted promotional efforts and rising interest among Indian travelers in Morocco’s cultural heritage, diverse landscapes, and high-end hospitality. Destinations such as Chefchaouen, Marrakech, and the country’s Atlantic and desert regions continue to draw attention for their unique blend of history, authenticity, and modern tourism infrastructure.

As part of its strategy to capitalize on this growth, the ONMT recently took part in OTM 2026, one of India’s major tourism trade fairs, held in Mumbai. During the event, Morocco promoted its “Land Of Light” campaign, which showcases the country’s heritage, craftsmanship, gastronomy, design, and luxury experiences.

Beyond India, Morocco is pursuing a broader diversification strategy by targeting fast-growing outbound markets. This approach aims to strengthen the resilience of the tourism sector and enhance the country’s global visibility as a premium and culturally rich destination.
