Four civilians, including a child, killed in Russian night attacks in Ukraine
At least four civilians, including a 10-year-old boy, were killed in overnight Russian airstrikes across various regions of Ukraine, local authorities reported on Monday.
In the southern port city of Odessa, hit by drone attacks, rescuers were seen performing CPR under the light of portable lamps amid burning, damaged buildings. Ukrainian air force officials stated that Russia launched 11 ballistic missiles and 149 drones—including Iranian-made Shahed drones—between Sunday evening and early Monday. Ukrainian air defenses reportedly shot down more than 100 drones and several missiles.
In Kharkiv, a mother and her 10-year-old son were killed when a drone destroyed their home, while in Novgorod-Siversky, a 71-year-old man died in his bed. These attacks come amid ongoing, US-mediated diplomatic talks aimed at ending the conflict.
Eyewitnesses described the terrifying impacts of the strikes, with homes damaged and debris scattered in residential areas. The Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022, remains Europe’s deadliest conflict since World War II, causing hundreds of thousands of casualties and widespread destruction.
Despite months of diplomatic efforts spearheaded by the US administration, tangible progress toward peace has been limited. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently said that the United States hopes the war could end “by early summer, in June.”
