Gotion High-Tech Invests €2.5 Billion in Battery Production Facilities in Morocco and Slovakia

Gotion High-Tech has announced a significant investment in expanding its global footprint by dedicating €2.5 billion toward the establishment of cutting-edge lithium battery production facilities in Morocco and Slovakia. These strategic initiatives, forming a part of Gotion's broader global expansion plan, aim to strengthen its presence in North Africa and Europe, two key regions for the global energy transition.

Investment in Morocco

Gotion has allocated €1.28 billion to develop a state-of-the-art lithium battery production facility in Morocco. Set to be built over the next five years, this facility will boast an annual production capacity of 20GWh and focus on producing high-performance batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems. The location of the facility, near both the African and European markets, positions Morocco as a vital link in the global supply chain.

The project is being managed by Gotion Power Morocco S.A., a subsidiary established in July 2024. It is expected to provide significant economic benefits to the region, including job creation, technology transfer, and the development of a robust local industrial ecosystem. As Morocco increasingly positions itself as a leader in renewable energy and advanced manufacturing, this investment aligns perfectly with the country’s strategic goals.

Investment in Slovakia

In addition to Morocco, Gotion is investing approximately €1.24 billion to establish Slovakia’s first battery "super factory" in collaboration with local manufacturer InoBat. With an expected production capacity of 20GWh annually, the Slovak facility is set to begin trial production by 2026 and reach full-scale operations by 2027. This plant will primarily cater to the European market, further bolstering Gotion's competitive edge in the rapidly growing battery market.

Strategic Expansion

Together, these investments will enhance Gotion High-Tech’s global supply chain and bolster its competitiveness within the international battery sector. The company's facilities in Morocco and Slovakia not only address the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions but also help mitigate risks related to global trade dynamics. As global energy markets transition to greener solutions, these plants are expected to play a significant role in supporting the European Union's green energy objectives and creating a localized supply of high-performance batteries.

Both projects underscore Gotion’s commitment to supporting global efforts toward sustainability, while also positioning Morocco as a pivotal player in the renewable energy sector. Moreover, the investment is likely to attract additional investments and foster innovation in green technology within the region, cementing Morocco's role as a critical hub for energy transition initiatives.
