Innovx's Hydrojeel Subsidiary Leading the Charge in Green Hydrogen and Ammonia Innovations
In a decisive move towards sustainable energy solutions, Innovx, a pioneering company affiliated with Morocco's prestigious Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), has introduced an ambitious venture Hydrojeel. This newly established subsidiary is poised to propel Innovx to the forefront of the green hydrogen and green ammonia revolution, marking a significant shift in renewable energy technologies.
The inception of Hydrojeel represents a crucial moment in Innovx's steadfast commitment to addressing the energy transition challenge head-on, as articulated by Amine Houssaim, the subsidiary's CEO. "The establishment of Hydrojeel signifies a monumental stride in our mission to contribute to a sustainable future," Houssaim emphasized, highlighting the profound impact of this initiative. "With Hydrojeel, we are positioning ourselves at the forefront of innovation in green hydrogen and green ammonia, solidifying our leadership in renewable energies and opening up unprecedented growth opportunities for our company and our nation."
Among Hydrojeel's primary initiatives is the launch of the Green Ammonia Program, a collaborative effort with the OCP Group, a global leader in the phosphate industry. This program aims to attract substantial investments in the advancement of green hydrogen production technologies and processes, fostering long-term capacity development within this emerging sector.
The Green Ammonia Program holds significant importance for OCP Group's strategic objective of reducing its dependence on imported ammonia, a critical ingredient in fertilizer manufacturing. In a decisive move, the phosphate giant announced plans in 2023 to invest a remarkable $7 billion in the construction of an ammonia plant in Tarfaya, utilizing green hydrogen sourced from renewable sources.
Establishing a reliable domestic source of ammonia is pivotal to OCP Group's ambitious future production targets. The company aims to produce 200,000 tons of green ammonia by 2030 and an impressive one million tons by 2034. Furthermore, the group has set its sights on expanding production to achieve a staggering three million tons by 2032, ultimately phasing out gas-based ammonia entirely.
Underlining its steadfast commitment to sustainability, OCP Group unveiled an ambitious $13-billion green investment plan spanning from 2023 to 2027. This comprehensive strategy not only demonstrates the company's dedication to scaling up the production of green fertilizers but also underscores its resolve to invest in renewable energy sources. By 2027, OCP Group envisions powering all of its industrial facilities exclusively through green energy, solidifying its position as a trailblazer in the transition towards a more sustainable future.
