EU welcomes US-Iran ceasefire and calls for lasting peace efforts
Leaders of the European Union have welcomed the recent ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, describing it as an important step toward easing tensions in the region.
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, highlighted that the agreement provides a much-needed opportunity to reduce escalation and stabilize the situation. She stressed the importance of continuing negotiations to transform the temporary ceasefire into a durable peace arrangement.
Other European officials also underlined the significance of maintaining the agreement’s terms. Kaja Kallas described the development as a critical moment to step back from rising tensions and create space for diplomacy.
The ceasefire is seen as a chance to restore stability in key areas, including maritime routes and regional security. European leaders emphasized that sustained dialogue will be essential to prevent further conflict and support long-term peace efforts.
Analysts note that while the agreement represents progress, the situation remains fragile. Continued cooperation among international actors will be necessary to address underlying issues and ensure that the ceasefire leads to meaningful and lasting results.
