GITEX Africa 2026 spotlights greentech and sustainable digital growth
GITEX Africa Morocco 2026 will place sustainability and green technology at the center of its fourth edition in Marrakech from April 7 to 9, as Africa’s digital expansion increasingly intersects with environmental challenges.
The event, organized by the Digital Development Agency in partnership with KAOUN International, is held under the theme “Catalyzing Africa’s Digital Economy in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” It aims to align technological innovation with sustainable development goals across the continent.
Organizers emphasize that artificial intelligence can support sustainability by improving infrastructure, strengthening policymaking, and accelerating the deployment of digital solutions adapted to African contexts. Amine El Mezouaghi said the event serves as a platform to unite African and international stakeholders around practical, high-impact projects that strengthen local capabilities.
Climate-focused innovation will be a key pillar of the program. The event will showcase technologies in sustainable agriculture, smart cities, renewable energy, and energy-efficient digital infrastructure. These sectors form part of the growing greentech industry, which aims to reduce environmental impact while supporting economic development.
Across Africa, greentech is gaining momentum as countries face rising energy demand, water scarcity, and climate-related pressures. Renewable energy, particularly solar and wind, is expanding rapidly as governments and investors seek alternatives to fossil fuels and aim to reduce emissions.
Green hydrogen is also emerging as a strategic opportunity. With strong solar and wind resources, parts of Africa are positioning themselves as future producers of this clean energy source, which could play a role in global energy markets.
Morocco has become a key player in this landscape. The country ranks among Africa’s leading startup ecosystems and has strengthened support for sustainable innovation through research institutions and technology hubs. Mohammed VI Polytechnic University works with international partners to support startups focused on greentech and agritech solutions.
The sustainability dimension of the event is also linked to the Digital for Sustainable Development initiative, launched by Morocco’s Ministry of Digital Transition in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme. The initiative aims to foster cooperation across Africa and the Arab region while ensuring digital technologies contribute to improved living conditions.
Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni said the program seeks to build a platform for sharing expertise, developing skills, and deploying AI solutions aligned with regional priorities. She described digital technology as a driver of co-development that can deliver concrete social and economic benefits.
The event will also bring together policymakers, investors, researchers, and corporate leaders focused on sustainability. Exhibitors will present solutions ranging from data intelligence platforms to enterprise mobility systems and technologies that convert plastic waste into fuel.
As Africa’s digital economy expands, GITEX Africa 2026 is positioning sustainability as a core requirement for long-term growth, linking innovation with environmental responsibility and economic development.
