Agritech solutions at GITEX Africa 2026 target food supply gaps
GITEX Africa Morocco 2026 will spotlight agritech innovations in Marrakech from April 7 to 9, focusing on practical solutions to address structural challenges in Africa’s agricultural systems.
While advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence continue to gain attention, many of the continent’s most pressing agricultural issues stem from fragmented supply chains and limited market access for farmers. These gaps reduce incomes, increase food waste, and weaken food security.
Recent editions of the event have highlighted technological progress in the sector. Moroccan startups have introduced tools such as precision agriculture drones and AI-powered crop monitoring systems designed to improve yields, reduce chemical use, and support sustainable farming.
The 2026 edition will expand on these developments by examining how digital tools can be integrated into everyday agricultural practices. Discussions will cover AI-driven farming, drone monitoring, Internet of Things-enabled supply chains, and financial technologies tailored to agriculture.
However, a central theme will be the need to address foundational challenges before scaling advanced technologies. Across Africa, smallholder farmers remain the backbone of food production, yet many lack direct access to markets. Agricultural products often pass through multiple intermediaries, leading to inefficiencies and reduced earnings.
Several startups at the event are focusing on these structural issues. Biolife Tech has developed a platform that connects pineapple farmers directly with exporters, providing data on harvest volumes and product quality to facilitate transactions.
In Senegal, ENDAM combines digital tools with on-the-ground support. Its platform links farmers to inputs, financing, and technical advice, while trained field agents assist with crop monitoring and data collection.
Logistics also plays a critical role. Kilimo Fresh focuses on improving the movement of goods from farms to markets by connecting producers with buyers and optimizing distribution networks to reduce waste.
These approaches highlight a broader shift in agritech across Africa. Innovation is no longer limited to high-end technologies. It increasingly includes systems that improve coordination, visibility, and access across the agricultural value chain.
As Africa works to feed a population projected to reach 1.5 billion, the effectiveness of agritech will depend on balancing advanced tools with practical solutions that respond to the realities of farmers on the ground.
