Forging Stronger Bonds: Morocco's Parliament and Council of Europe Pursue Deeper Cooperation
Morocco's Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe are taking steps to strengthen their collaboration and advance democratic values. This effort received a significant boost during the official visit of Theodoros Rousopoulos, President of the Parliamentary Assembly, to Morocco.
Rousopoulos's visit culminated in a pivotal debate jointly organized by the Moroccan Parliament and the Council of Europe, marking the conclusion of the "Strengthening Democracy in Morocco 2020-2024" project. This project, funded by the European Union, was implemented by the Council of Europe.
During a meeting with Rachid Talbi Alami, Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives, both parties reiterated their commitment to deepening cooperation. Alami highlighted the positive outcomes of their joint parliamentary collaboration and the programs designed to promote democracy.
Alami also outlined Morocco's key initiatives to strengthen democratic institutions, promote human rights, and improve the status of Moroccan women in society and elected bodies. These efforts align with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, whose reforms have earned commendation from the Council of Europe for upholding its principles.
Rousopoulos expressed appreciation for the progress achieved through their collaboration and indicated a strong desire to explore new areas of cooperation. He acknowledged Morocco's critical role in fostering stable relations between Africa and Europe, positioning the country as a vital bridge between the two continents.
Rousopoulos's visit also provided an opportunity to meet other senior Moroccan officials, including Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita, further reinforcing the commitment to enhanced cooperation.
As Morocco and the Council of Europe continue to strengthen their partnership, their joint efforts are poised to usher in a new era of democratic advancement, human rights promotion, and regional stability, solidifying Morocco's reputation as a beacon of progress and a catalyst for positive change.
