Morocco-Spain Cooperation Disrupts ISIS-Linked Terror Plot

A significant counter-terrorism operation, achieved through cooperation between Moroccan and Spanish authorities, has successfully thwarted an ISIS-affiliated threat. The joint action culminated in the arrest of several suspects allegedly involved in a sinister plot to carry out attacks on Moroccan soil.

The Spanish National Police, in close coordination with Morocco's General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), apprehended a man in Teulada, Alicante, on suspicion of being a member of ISIS. The suspect faces severe charges, including integrating a terrorist organization, recruitment, indoctrination, and the glorification of terrorism, according to a statement from Spanish law enforcement officials.

Investigations revealed that the detained individual had been actively producing and disseminating pro-ISIS propaganda, with a notable escalation in both the volume and radical nature of his publications in recent weeks. Authorities reported that the suspect had created his own jihadist materials, which he brazenly shared on various social media platforms.

The suspect's online activities connected him with other individuals previously arrested for jihadist terrorism in Spain and Morocco, as well as with foreign fighters in the conflict zones of Syria and Iraq, according to reports.

Simultaneously, Morocco's Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) conducted a separate but coordinated operation, apprehending four ISIS-affiliated suspects for their alleged involvement in plotting terrorist operations targeting Morocco. The arrests occurred in simultaneous raids in the cities of Sale, Tangier, and Tetouan.

During the raids, BCIJ personnel seized electronic equipment, weapons, an ISIS flag, and publications detailing the assembly of explosive devices. The preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects, aged between 21 and 41, were actively planning "extremely dangerous terrorist projects" aimed at vital and sensitive areas and buildings across Morocco.

The statement from BCIJ emphasized that the suspects had effectively engaged in the preparation of these terrorist plots, identifying their targets, and establishing links with ISIS leaders operating abroad to receive support and secure payment for the operations after their execution in Morocco.

This joint counter-terrorism effort between Morocco and Spain underscores the importance of international cooperation in combating the persistent threat posed by terrorist organizations. By leveraging shared intelligence and coordinating their actions, the two nations have successfully disrupted a potentially devastating terror plot, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the security of their citizens and the broader international community.
