German ambassador praises universal poetry at Fes festival
The German ambassador to Morocco praised the artistic vision presented at the opening of the Festival of Sacred Music in Fes, describing it as a work that conveys a universal poetic language. He highlighted the production “Anima Ex Materia – From sky to earth” as a creative journey that connects beauty, tradition, and shared human heritage across cultures.
During the opening night, the ambassador emphasized the historical depth of cultural exchange between regions. He stated that materials, techniques, and artistic influences have circulated for centuries between Asia, Africa, and Europe. The performance, he said, translates this long-standing movement into a visual and poetic narrative that remains accessible to diverse audiences.
The stage production showcased artisans and traditional craftsmanship as central elements of the story. Blacksmiths, inspired by traditions linked to India and sub-Saharan Africa, appeared alongside metal artisans representing light and refinement. The show also drew connections between Moroccan zellige and ancient mosaic traditions, including those found in the archaeological site of Volubilis, underscoring continuity in decorative arts across civilizations.
The ambassador also pointed to Morocco’s cultural identity as a layered and interconnected heritage. He described it as a space where Andalusian, Amazigh, and Jewish influences coexist and shape a shared artistic landscape. He added that even contemporary expressions, such as the Moroccan caftan, reflect the dialogue between tradition and modern design.
The opening night reinforced the festival’s role as a meeting point for cultures. It presented art as a universal language built on gesture, material, and memory, bringing together historical narratives and contemporary creativity in a single shared space.
