Thai golfer records first hole-in-one at Lalla Meryem Cup
Aunchisa Utama delivered a historic moment at the 29th edition of the Lalla Meryem Cup in Rabat. The Thai professional made the first hole-in-one ever recorded in the competition on the 17th hole of the Blue Course at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam. She struck a five-iron from 165 meters, sending the ball directly into the cup and securing a rare achievement in women’s professional golf.
The shot carried immediate sporting and symbolic weight. It marked a first in the tournament’s history and unfolded on one of Morocco’s most recognized golf venues. The hole-in-one also came with a prize, a Range Rover Sport provided by event partner SMEIA Land Rover, adding a commercial dimension to the sporting milestone.
The Lalla Meryem Cup, launched in 1993 under the initiative of King Hassan II, has grown into a key fixture on the international women’s golf calendar. Since joining the Ladies European Tour in 2010, it has attracted a global field each year. The 2026 edition, held alongside the Trophée Hassan II between 18 and 24 May, reinforced Rabat’s position as a central hub for elite golf competition.
Utama’s performance also reflects a long professional trajectory. The Bangkok-born golfer has competed on the professional circuit since 2012 and recorded her 13th career hole-in-one with this shot, the second achieved in Morocco. She previously secured her Ladies European Tour card in Marrakech during the 2023 Lalla Aicha Q-School, strengthening her connection with the country’s golf scene. She described the prize car as her dream vehicle following the historic shot.
