Zelensky receives European support ahead of meeting with Trump
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has received assurances of full support from European leaders, Canada, and NATO allies ahead of a critical meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump in Florida.
During a video conference en route to Canada, Zelensky briefed his international partners on the progress of negotiations related to ending nearly four years of conflict with Russia. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz emphasized that European and Canadian efforts toward a durable and just peace in Ukraine would be closely coordinated with the United States.
Key topics expected during the meeting with Trump include the future of the Donbass region and Western security guarantees for Ukraine. Zelensky has indicated that territorial exchanges could be part of future agreements with Russia.
Meanwhile, heavy Russian strikes on Kyiv and surrounding areas continue, killing two people and leaving over a million homes without electricity. Zelensky described these attacks as evidence that Russia remains unwilling to end the war.
