Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to visit China on May 19 and 20 for high-level talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to an announcement from the Kremlin.

The visit comes only a few days after U.S. President Donald Trump traveled to China, highlighting the growing diplomatic activity surrounding relations between major global powers.

During the meetings, Russian and Chinese officials are expected to discuss ways to strengthen strategic cooperation, economic ties, and political coordination between the two countries. The Kremlin stated that the discussions would focus on expanding what both nations describe as a long-term comprehensive partnership.

Relations between Moscow and Beijing have become increasingly important in recent years as both governments seek closer cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, defense, and international diplomacy. Leaders from the two countries have frequently emphasized their shared interests in promoting a multipolar global order and reducing dependence on Western-led institutions.

The two presidents last met during a major regional summit in 2025, when Vladimir Putin attended events organized by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and participated in ceremonies marking the anniversary of the end of World War II in Asia. At the time, both leaders described the relationship between Russia and China as a partnership with “no limits.”

Political analysts believe the upcoming visit could further reinforce cooperation between the two countries at a time of ongoing geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region.
