Morocco and Senegal Move to Deepen Security Cooperation Following Rabat Talks
Morocco and Senegal have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in security, civil protection and the management of major sporting events following talks between their interior ministers in Rabat on Tuesday.
Morocco’s Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, received Senegalese Minister of the Interior and Public Security Mouhamadou Makhtar Cissé for discussions aimed at consolidating the partnership between the two countries and expanding coordination across areas of shared interest.
According to a statement from Morocco’s Ministry of the Interior, the meeting reflects the longstanding ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
Security and civil protection at the centre of discussions
The talks provided an opportunity to review existing cooperation between the two ministries, with particular attention to security matters, civil protection and arrangements for major sporting events.
Both ministers expressed satisfaction with the strength of bilateral relations and underscored the importance of developing practical mechanisms to support closer collaboration between their respective departments.
They also highlighted the value of regular consultations, improved coordination and exchanges of professional expertise. These measures are intended to reinforce institutional cooperation and enable both countries to benefit from their respective experience in managing shared challenges.
The focus on major sporting events adds another dimension to the partnership, particularly in areas requiring coordinated security planning, emergency preparedness and effective civil protection arrangements.
A longstanding partnership with room for expansion
The meeting builds on the historical relationship between Morocco and Senegal, which is rooted in longstanding bonds of friendship, fraternity and solidarity.
According to the Moroccan Interior Ministry, both sides expressed their determination to preserve the achievements of their existing partnership while identifying opportunities to broaden cooperation in fields of mutual interest.
Their discussions also reflected a shared desire to maintain the momentum of bilateral engagement through stronger institutional dialogue and sustained exchanges between public authorities.
Commitment to continued dialogue
At the conclusion of the meeting, Laftit and Cissé reiterated their intention to intensify consultations on matters of common concern.
Both ministers emphasized mutual trust, solidarity and partnership as guiding principles for the next phase of cooperation, signalling a continued commitment to strengthening ties between the two countries.
While the meeting's communiqué did not announce specific new agreements or operational measures, the discussions reaffirmed the political will in Rabat and Dakar to deepen cooperation, particularly in security-related fields.
