Venezuela’s interim president calls for dialogue with the opposition
Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodriguez, has called for dialogue with the country’s opposition, stressing the need to reach political agreements in the interest of national stability. Her appeal comes just weeks after dramatic political developments that led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and amid growing international pressure, particularly from the United States.
Speaking on national television, Rodriguez said that political differences should not stand in the way of peace and reconciliation. She emphasized that her interim mandate, which may last up to six months under the constitution, should focus on unity and concrete results for the Venezuelan people.
On the same day, the interim president asked the head of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, to initiate talks with all political factions. She underlined her desire for a nationally driven dialogue, free from foreign influence, and aimed at producing immediate and tangible outcomes.
Since taking office on January 5, Rodriguez has announced several measures, including plans to release political prisoners and the signing of oil-related agreements with the United States. Her government has also launched a legislative reform intended to open the oil sector to private investment. Authorities estimate that these changes could boost oil production by at least 18 percent in 2026.
