Uyoyo Zino Edosio: Building Africa's Digital Future

Uyoyo Zino Edosio is not merely a participant in the digital landscape; she is shaping its very foundations. Her mission transcends conventional roles; she is dedicated to transforming Africa’s economic and digital frameworks, ensuring that innovation is accessible to all.

At first glance, Edosio's LinkedIn profile conveys a modest ambition: “I build things that matter.” However, her work reflects a grander vision. She is actively constructing digital economies, reforming startup policies, and fostering a more inclusive Africa through the establishment of innovation hubs.

As she prepares to take the stage at GITEX Africa 2025 during the AI Everything conference, it’s essential to understand the force behind this transformation.

Twelve years ago, Edosio entered the realm of development finance with a goal not just to advance her career, but to reimagine the entire system. Today, as Principal Innovation & Digital Expert at the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), she manages an impressive portfolio exceeding $600 million, impacting initiatives from technology parks to sovereign-backed venture funds.

Her impact is tangible. In Cabo Verde, for example, she is spearheading a $47 million project to create a technology park, transforming this picturesque island into a burgeoning digital hub.

In Rwanda and Nigeria, Edosio co-leads initiatives worth over $300 million, focusing on sovereign venture funds, Startup Acts, and the training of over one million youth in digital skills. While some perceive Africa’s youth as a challenge, Edosio recognizes their potential as a driving force for innovation.

Her collaborations extend to Smart Africa and the African Union, where she is harmonizing digital trade policies across ten countries and reshaping innovation in higher education.

Edosio's daily agenda might include aligning cross-border digital standards and planning innovation centers at universities, all while ensuring that technology is not merely an add-on but an integral part of Africa's growth narrative.

Beyond her strategic insights, there is a profound aspect to her mission. Edosio is committed to providing dignity, access, and opportunity. She ensures that Africa is not merely a spectator in the global digital arena but an active participant, crafting its own narrative.

Her approach to innovation is deeply human-centered. Edosio forges strategic partnerships with global leaders like Google, Microsoft, Mastercard, and Intel, ensuring that these collaborations lead to meaningful change rather than superficial gestures.

Previously, as Senior Innovation Expert for Human Capital Development at AfDB’s Côte d’Ivoire office, Edosio managed projects totaling $68 million across eight countries, facilitating the establishment of innovation centers in universities and collaborating on significant STEM initiatives.

Her academic background, including a Master’s degree in International Social and Public Policy from the London School of Economics, underscores her commitment to understanding the intricate systems that drive development.

As she heads to GITEX Africa, Edosio brings not only data and policy frameworks but also a powerful vision: a future where islands known for their beauty become recognized for their technological prowess, and where the continent’s youth are empowered to innovate and thrive.

Uyoyo Zino Edosio epitomizes the spirit of a builder and a visionary. Her belief is simple yet profound: she builds things that matter. This philosophy encapsulates the essence of the future she is creating.
