Uk to develop new tactical ballistic missiles for Ukraine
The United Kingdom has announced plans to develop a new generation of tactical ballistic missiles intended to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities, as part of its continued military support amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Under an initiative known as Project Nightfall, the British government has launched a competitive program inviting defense companies to design and produce ground-launched ballistic missiles capable of long-range precision strikes. The missiles are expected to carry substantial payloads and reach targets hundreds of kilometers away, offering Ukraine a rapid-response option against strategic military positions.
According to British officials, the new missiles are designed to be mobile and adaptable, allowing them to be launched from various vehicles and fired in quick succession before repositioning. This mobility is intended to reduce vulnerability and enhance operational effectiveness on the battlefield.
Beyond military objectives, the program also seeks to stimulate innovation within the UK defense sector by promoting rapid development and cost-efficient production. Each missile is expected to remain relatively affordable, ensuring scalability while limiting regulatory and export constraints.
UK defense leaders emphasized that strengthening Ukraine’s defensive and strike capabilities is essential for European security. The project reflects London’s broader strategy to provide advanced military support to Kyiv while reinforcing the resilience and competitiveness of Britain’s defense industry.
