UAE consulate in Iraqi Kurdistan targeted again by drone attack
The United Arab Emirates said Saturday that its consulate in the autonomous Kurdistan region of northern Iraq was targeted by a drone strike, marking the second such incident this week.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the attack, which reportedly injured two security personnel and caused damage to the consulate building.
The diplomatic mission is located in Erbil, the capital of the autonomous Kurdistan Region.
Earlier in the week, security services in Iraqi Kurdistan reported that forces from the International Coalition Against ISIShad intercepted and destroyed three explosive drones over Erbil.
According to Kurdish authorities, one of the drones fell close to the Emirati consulate. Local officials described the incident as an “unjustified attack,” raising concerns about the security of diplomatic missions in the region.
The renewed drone attack comes amid heightened regional tensions across the Middle East, where escalating conflicts and security threats have increasingly affected diplomatic and strategic facilities.
