Terror attack in London leaves two Jewish men stabbed
A stabbing attack in north London has been classified as terrorism after two Jewish men were wounded in a busy residential area. The incident took place on Highfield Avenue in Barnet, near Golders Green, an area with a large Jewish population.
Emergency services were called shortly after 11:16 local time following reports of a man attacking people with a knife. The victims, aged 76 and 34, were both stabbed and taken to hospital. Medical staff confirmed their condition as stable after treatment.
Police stated that the suspect, a 45-year-old man, was detained after being subdued by members of a volunteer community patrol group and armed officers. He was later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Authorities reported that he also assaulted responding officers before being neutralised with a conducted energy device. No police officers were injured during the intervention.
Counterterrorism units have taken charge of the investigation. Officials are examining whether the attack was motivated by antisemitism and whether it is linked to recent incidents targeting Jewish sites in the city, including arson attacks on community buildings. Investigators are also reviewing whether any group connections exist, while cautioning that claims of responsibility circulating online have not been verified.
Political leaders condemned the attack and pledged increased protection for Jewish communities across the country. Emergency security meetings were convened, and officials described rising concern over repeated antisemitic violence in the capital. Community leaders have called for stronger preventive measures beyond public statements of condemnation.
