Suicide attack in Pakistan’s Waziristan kills one, injures 16
At least one civilian was killed and sixteen others were injured in a suicide attack in North Waziristan, Pakistan, on Friday. The incident occurred in the Miranshah area when a suicide bomber on a motorcycle targeted a security checkpoint.
Authorities reported that the attack took place near the Chashmai checkpoint, which is typically quiet around sunset during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, as soldiers break their fast at a nearby facility.
Witnesses described the motorcyclist as deliberately crashing into the checkpoint while carrying explosives. Security forces responded quickly, but the explosion resulted in casualties among civilians and personnel.
Pakistan has experienced a rise in militant attacks in recent years. Many incidents are attributed to the Pakistani Taliban and banned Baloch separatist groups. Islamabad has accused the Taliban of using Afghanistan as a base for operations, a claim consistently denied by the Taliban-led government in Kabul.
