Russian ambassador praises Morocco’s stability and economic growth

Morocco’s economic resilience and political stability have been highlighted by Russia’s ambassador to the Kingdom, who described bilateral relations as dynamic and steadily expanding. In remarks published by the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, Ambassador Vladimir Baybakov emphasized the strength of trade ties and Morocco’s growing international profile.

According to the diplomat, trade exchanges between Morocco and Russia remain stable at around $2 billion annually. He attributed this performance to expanding commercial partnerships and the increasing interest of Russian companies in the Moroccan market. Moroccan exports to Russia are largely composed of fruits, seafood, and fish, with citrus products—particularly mandarins—enjoying longstanding popularity among Russian consumers.

Despite competition from other exporting countries, Moroccan citrus shipments continue to grow, especially during peak holiday seasons. The ambassador pointed to product quality and brand reputation as key factors sustaining Morocco’s competitive edge.

Expanding economic cooperation

Beyond agriculture, the two countries are exploring broader avenues of cooperation. Morocco has shown interest in Russian technologies and investments, particularly in energy, infrastructure, and agriculture. In turn, Russia supplies agricultural inputs such as fertilizers and animal feed, as well as pharmaceuticals, electrical equipment, and information technology solutions.

The ambassador’s comments reflect a broader diplomatic effort to consolidate economic partnerships amid shifting global trade dynamics. Strengthened bilateral relations are seen as mutually beneficial, offering diversification opportunities for both economies.

Stability as a pillar of attractiveness

Ambassador Baybakov also underscored Morocco’s security and political stability, describing them as fundamental assets for foreign investment and tourism. Under the leadership of HM Mohammed VI, he noted, the country has maintained a steady path of development.

He referenced the successful hosting of the Africa Cup of Nations as evidence of Morocco’s organizational capacity and secure environment. Tourism figures further illustrate this momentum: the Kingdom welcomed a record 20 million visitors in 2025, marking significant growth compared to the previous year.

For a country of roughly 37 million inhabitants, such numbers underscore Morocco’s rising global appeal. The ambassador highlighted the authorities’ commitment to public order and counterterrorism efforts, noting Morocco’s active role in promoting stability across the Sahel-Saharan region.

Preparing for 2030

Sport also plays a central role in Morocco’s international strategy. The country is preparing to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal. The ambassador recalled that Gianni Infantino recently praised Morocco’s emergence as a global football power.

With major infrastructure projects underway and sustained diplomatic outreach, Morocco appears determined to consolidate its status as a stable, growth-oriented nation at the crossroads of Africa and Europe.
