Russia: Two Dead After Drone Crash, Wildberries Site Devastated by Fire

A new night marked by drones in Russia has resulted in two fatalities and caused a significant fire at a Wildberries logistics center, one of the country's major online retail players. Russian authorities attribute these incidents to Ukrainian drone attacks.

Two People Killed in Southwestern Russia

Two people lost their lives after a drone crashed into a home in southwestern Russia, according to local authorities.

The tragedy occurred during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, as several Russian regions faced drone attacks. The precise circumstances of the drone's fall and any additional damages are yet to be established.

These incidents are part of a growing trend of drone strikes targeting Russian territories far from the front line since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.

Wildberries Logistics Center Hit by Fire

On the same night, another incident caused a fire at an industrial site related to Wildberries, a major Russian online retailer.

The fire broke out at a logistics center located in Kotovsk, in the Tambov region, about 500 kilometers southeast of Moscow. Regional governor Evgeny Pervychov stated that the fire was triggered by Ukrainian drone strikes.

Local authorities reported a disaster at one of the centers used by the company for its logistics operations. The exact extent of the material damages has not been specified in the initial reports.

Wildberries at the Center of Kiev's Accusations

The company is not an insignificant target in the context of the conflict. Wildberries is one of the major players in e-commerce in Russia and has an extensive logistics network across the country.

Kiev regularly accuses the group of indirectly contributing to the Russian war effort, notably by supplying certain components to the military. These accusations have made several infrastructures associated with the company potential targets in attacks conducted on Russian territory.

Moscow, for its part, denounces Ukrainian strikes targeting infrastructures located far from the front and regularly claims that its air defenses are mobilized to intercept the devices.

Attacks Extending Beyond the Front

The increase in drone attacks is one of the most visible aspects of the evolution of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict. Unmanned devices allow for targeting sites located hundreds of kilometers away from combat zones.

The choice of industrial, logistical, or energy infrastructures can also have an economic impact, temporarily disrupting supply chains and the activities of the affected businesses.

The fire at the Kotovsk logistics center comes just weeks after another incident that affected a Wildberries infrastructure in the Moscow region following a drone attack.

A Toll That Could Still Change

The initial information provided by Russian authorities remains limited regarding the damages and any potential other victims. The exact circumstances of the various incidents still need to be documented.

The drone crash into a home, which resulted in two deaths, especially highlights the human consequences of air attacks that are now regularly affecting areas located far from the main fighting.

In Kotovsk, attention is now focused on the consequences of the fire and any potential disruptions to the operations of the Russian online retail giant.
