Royal Air Maroc Expands Network for Busy Summer Travel Season

As summer approaches, Royal Air Maroc (RAM), Morocco's national airline, is gearing up for an anticipated surge in passenger demand by significantly enhancing its network and seat capacity. The airline's strategic expansion aims to provide travelers with more options and improved connectivity across multiple continents.

RAM is set to offer over 6.5 million seats across more than 90 destinations worldwide, marking an increase of over 300,000 seats compared to the previous summer. This ambitious expansion underscores the airline’s commitment to meeting the growing demands of its passengers.

Europe remains a key focus for RAM, with nearly half of the total seats (over 3.2 million) allocated to European destinations. The airline will operate 671 weekly flights, connecting 37 European cities to 11 Moroccan airports. In addition to Europe, RAM has also boosted its seat availability to North America by 13% and to the Middle East by 19%.

Africa continues to be a significant market for RAM, with the airline offering 1.3 million seats, a 19% increase from last year. This expanded capacity will serve 28 destinations across the continent with 271 weekly flights.

One of the notable highlights of RAM's expansion is the strengthening of its presence in Rotterdam. The airline has introduced three new direct routes from Rotterdam to Tangier, Oujda, and Nador, catering to the Moroccan diaspora in the Netherlands. Furthermore, new routes will connect Casablanca directly to Abuja, Manchester, and Naples.

These developments are in line with broader trends in Moroccan air travel, with both Casablanca and Rabat airports experiencing a surge in demand for landing and takeoff slots from various airlines. According to the Ministry of Transport, Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca has seen a 16.2% increase in slot requests compared to summer 2023, while Rabat-Salé Airport has witnessed a remarkable 88% rise in slot requests for the season.

To accommodate the expected influx of passengers, Moroccan authorities are implementing several measures to enhance airport services, increase reception capacity, and improve infrastructure. These efforts aim to ensure a smooth and efficient travel experience for all passengers.

Other airlines are also seizing the opportunity presented by Morocco's burgeoning tourism industry. Binter Canarias has resumed its summer route between Tangier and Gran Canaria, offering more seats compared to last year. Additionally, Air Arabia Morocco has established a new airbase at Rabat-Salé Airport, launching new routes to popular European destinations.

In summary, Royal Air Maroc's extensive network expansion and increased seat capacity reflect its proactive approach to addressing the anticipated rise in summer travel demand. With these enhancements, RAM is well-positioned to offer travelers more choices and improved connectivity, reinforcing its role as a key player in the global aviation industry.
