Medusa submarine cable boosts eastern Morocco’s digital connectivity
Morocco has reached a new milestone in strengthening its digital infrastructure with the arrival of the Medusa submarine cable on the eastern coast of the country. Landing near Nador, the project marks a major step in linking Africa and Europe through high-capacity digital networks.
Stretching thousands of kilometers across the Mediterranean, the Medusa cable is designed to deliver cutting-edge transmission capacity and faster data flows. Its deployment enhances Morocco’s access to international internet routes while reducing latency and improving overall network reliability.
The project is the result of strategic cooperation between international partners and national telecom operators. By diversifying international connections, Morocco aims to increase the resilience of its digital ecosystem and reduce dependence on a limited number of entry points.
The choice of eastern Morocco as a landing site reflects a broader strategy to decentralize critical infrastructure and promote balanced regional development. With this new connection, the Oriental region is emerging as a potential digital hub, complementing industrial and port developments in the area.
Beyond technical performance, the Medusa cable represents an important lever for digital sovereignty. By securing data flows and expanding connectivity options, Morocco is positioning itself to attract investment in data centers, cloud services, and technology-driven industries, laying the foundations for a stronger data-based economy.
