Nioh 3 sells 700,000 copies in four days
Nioh 3 has recorded a strong commercial debut, selling more than 700,000 copies on PlayStation 5 and PC within four days of its February 6 launch, according to data from analytics firm Alinea Analytics. The action role-playing game developed by Team Ninja has generated over $50 million in gross revenue during that period, signaling a solid start despite technical criticisms.
Steam accounted for the majority of early sales, with roughly 395,000 copies sold on Valve’s platform. The PlayStation 5 version followed with approximately 309,000 units, based on figures released by Alinea Analytics on February 10. The firm also reported that China has become the franchise’s largest market, representing 48.7 percent of the total player base across both platforms.
The PC release set a new concurrent player record for the series, although official figures from publisher Koei Tecmo have yet to be disclosed. Revenue estimates do not include unsold physical copies, suggesting total distribution numbers could be higher once retail sales are fully accounted for.
Technical performance has drawn scrutiny following a February 11 analysis by Digital Foundry. In its technical review, analyst Tom Morgan highlighted ongoing issues tied to Team Ninja’s Katana engine, citing geometry pop-in, shadow flickering and inconsistent screen space reflections across both standard and Pro PlayStation 5 models.
Morgan noted that the Katana engine sometimes produces uneven visual results, adding that console players may need to accept certain graphical compromises to fully enjoy the experience. While the PlayStation 5 Pro incorporates Sony’s PSSR upscaling technology, which improves motion clarity and reduces ghosting compared with the standard PS5’s AMD FSR solution, it introduces trade-offs of its own. Observers pointed to softer static images and flickering artifacts when dynamic resolution scaling activates in 60 frames-per-second performance mode.
Despite those concerns, critical reception has remained strong. IGN described the title as featuring the best combat system in the soulslike genre, praising its new dual combat styles that allow players to switch instantly between Samurai and Ninja approaches. The expanded mechanics have been widely cited as a key strength of the release.
Nioh 3 currently holds a score of 88 on OpenCritic and 86 on Metacritic for the PlayStation 5 version, placing it above Nioh 2 and among the highest-rated titles of 2026 to date. GamesRadar awarded the game 4.5 out of 5 stars, calling it a triumphant evolution of the series.
