Morocco's dedication to cultivating its abundant agricultural heritage was vividly highlighted by Mohamed Sadiki, Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, during the commencement of the 6th Moroccan Terroir Products Competition in Marrakech.

Sadiki, addressing a distinguished audience, accentuated the pivotal role of local products in propelling socio-economic advancement, aligning with the Kingdom's ambitious "Generation Green 2020-2030" strategy. This visionary initiative, championed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, aims to unlock the latent potential of Morocco's terroir products to meet the burgeoning national and international demand.

"The programs geared towards promoting local products have yielded significant positive outcomes for beneficiary cooperatives and small-scale farmers, offering a promising avenue for agricultural development," Sadiki declared, emphasizing the sector's notable contribution to job creation and enhanced incomes for rural communities.

Inspired by the sovereign's royal directives articulated in his 2018 speech, the "Generation Green" initiative has cast a spotlight on Morocco's diverse array of terroir treasures, encompassing the golden elixir of Argan oil, the aromatic allure of Moroccan honey, and the timeless tradition of couscous.

Sadiki further emphasized the pivotal role of trade fairs and exhibitions, both domestically and internationally, in showcasing and marketing these unique products. Such platforms not only support producers but also safeguard the rich tapestry of local culture and heritage.

Since the inception of the Green Morocco Plan, the local product sector has received special attention, with a meticulously crafted development strategy implemented to harness its potential through the protection, encouragement, and enhancement of national resources.

The minister elaborated on regional plans and programs designed to effectively organize producers and cooperatives, ensuring the delivery of high-quality products meeting stringent sanitary safety standards and market demands.

Organized by the Agricultural Development Agency (ADA), the 6th edition of the Moroccan Terroir Products Competition has emerged as a prestigious platform, celebrating the unwavering efforts of producers and agricultural cooperatives from the Kingdom's 12 regions.

With over 1,200 local products vying for recognition, ranging from the rich, nutty Amlou to the liquid gold of olive oil, this competition stands as a testament to Morocco's steadfast commitment to promoting its culinary heritage and empowering its rural communities.
