Morocco's police force undergoes leadership overhaul to enhance efficiency

The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) in Morocco has announced significant leadership changes as part of its strategy to improve the efficiency and productivity of its police force. Abdellatif Hammouchi, head of the DGSN, revealed the appointments today, marking a new chapter in security management across the country.

Seventeen leadership roles assigned

The appointments encompass 17 key positions in both regional and central offices, introducing new leadership in cities such as Casablanca, Tetouan, Laayoune, Rabat, Marrakech, Fez, Sidi Ifni, Youssoufia, Inezgane, and Sefrou. These changes align with the DGSN’s vision to promote young talent and ensure regular rotational leadership in security roles.

Notable appointments include a new head for the Tetouan security zone and a chief for the Sidi Ifni seaport police station. Other leadership changes occurred in district police offices in Fez Medina, Hay Hassani district in Casablanca, Youssoufia, and Sidi Ifni.

Central administration and specialized units

At the central level, a female security officer was appointed to lead the judicial police’s information systems management service, "Abhath," under the Judicial Police Directorate. This highlights the DGSN’s commitment to advancing gender inclusion in leadership roles.

The uniformed public security services also saw fresh appointments. A new leader now oversees the command and coordination center in Marrakech's security prefecture, while urban and traffic police units in Fez, Sefrou, Ain Chock in Casablanca, and Benssouda received new chiefs.

Specialized units benefiting from the leadership reshuffle include Rabat’s tourist police, anti-gang units in Laayoune, and general intelligence teams in Inezgane and Fez’s Ben Dbab Ain Qadous district.

Enhancing citizen security

According to a DGSN statement, these appointments aim to implement work plans that fortify public security and safeguard property. By rotating leadership roles and appointing highly trained personnel in field management positions, the strategy seeks to address emerging challenges and elevate the quality of policing services across Morocco.
