Morocco and Paraguay Forge Deeper Ties with New Parliamentary Committee
The diplomatic relationship between Morocco and Paraguay took a significant step forward today with the formal establishment of a parliamentary cooperation committee. This new initiative underscores the commitment of both nations to enhance bilateral relations across various sectors.
In a ceremony held on Friday, Basilio Núñez, President of the Paraguayan Congress, presented the list of committee members to Badreddine Abdelmoumni, Morocco's Ambassador to Paraguay. The newly formed committee, comprising eight members, will be chaired by Senator Noelia Cabrera, who was present at the event.
The committee includes esteemed Senators Hermelindo Alvarenga de Ortega, Juan Carlos Luis Galaverna Ortega, Derlis Hernán Maidana Zarza, Norma Beatriz Aquino Luraghi, Dionisio Oswaldo Amarilla Guirland, and Antonio Carlos Barrios Fernandez. Their collective expertise and dedication promise to bolster the collaborative efforts between the two nations.
During the handover ceremony, Núñez took the opportunity to extend his congratulations to King Mohammed VI on the 25th anniversary of his reign. He highlighted the crucial role of parliamentarians in fostering and expanding bilateral ties in areas of mutual interest.
Ambassador Abdelmoumni briefed Núñez on recent developments concerning Morocco’s national interests, particularly focusing on a letter from French President Emmanuel Macron to King Mohammed VI. In this letter, Macron reaffirmed France’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over Sahara and expressed unwavering support for Morocco’s autonomy plan for the region.
Macron’s endorsement represents a significant diplomatic triumph for Morocco, dealing a blow to Algeria and the Polisario Front, both of which have long opposed Morocco’s territorial claims. Núñez acknowledged the delicacy of the issue and assured that Paraguay would steadfastly support Morocco in upholding all its legitimate rights.
Núñez also announced his intention to visit Morocco soon, accompanied by Senator Cabrera, to further strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
The establishment of this parliamentary cooperation committee is a testament to the growing partnership between Morocco and Paraguay. Last year, Raul Luis Latorre, Speaker of Paraguay’s Chamber of Deputies, reaffirmed his country’s strong commitment to deepening relations with Morocco. He emphasized the need for enhanced parliamentary collaboration, improved trade relations, and stronger mechanisms for coordination and mutual political support between the two nations.
As Morocco and Paraguay continue to build on this foundation, the newly formed committee will play a pivotal role in advancing their shared goals and fostering a robust and dynamic partnership.
