2026 Legislative Elections in Morocco: Voters Begin Receiving Polling Station Notices

Less than a month before the Moroccan legislative elections, the administrative authorities have started distributing notices informing voters of the location of their polling stations. This initiative also applies to Moroccans living abroad, who can now establish a proxy online.

As the election date approaches on September 23, 2026, the Ministry of the Interior outlines the practical arrangements enabling voters to participate in the upcoming elections for the House of Representatives.

From August 24 until September 22 at 6 PM, local administrative authorities will be handing out notices informing voters of the location of the polling station where they will vote.

A Notice to Facilitate Voting

The document provided to voters primarily aims to indicate the location of their polling station. It also reminds voters of the election date and the opening and closing hours for voting operations.

However, the Ministry of the Interior emphasizes an important point: this notice is not mandatory for voting.

On election day, the National Identity Card remains the official document required for voters to prove their identity.

Voters who do not possess the notice distributed by the authorities are not deprived of their voting rights for this reason alone.

An Open Platform for Moroccans Living Abroad

The electoral system also includes a specific procedure for Moroccans living abroad (MRE) registered on the general electoral lists.

In accordance with Organic Law No. 27.11 related to the House of Representatives, voters residing abroad can exercise their voting rights by proxy.

The electronic platform for establishing these proxies has been accessible since August 24, 2026 and will remain open until September 22 at noon.

Each Moroccan voter residing abroad can designate a person of their choice, registered on the general electoral list of a municipality or district in the Kingdom, to vote on their behalf on election day.

A Fully Online Procedure

To establish the proxy, the concerned voter must provide their own information as well as that of the person they wish to entrust with their vote.

The data must then be verified and confirmed. The voter must also attest that they have personally established the proxy and certify the accuracy of the information provided.

Once the procedure is completed, the document must be downloaded and then sent to the proxy, either by email or by postal mail.

The authorities aim to simplify the procedures for Moroccans living outside the national territory while formally regulating the exercise of voting by proxy.

Two Official Platforms for Procedures

The Ministry of the Interior invites Moroccan voters living abroad to carry out the procedure via the official platforms:

The period for distributing polling station notices and for establishing proxies thus constitutes two important steps before the election on September 23, 2026.

A few weeks before the legislative elections, the Ministry mainly reminds voters that access to the polling station does not depend on possessing the distributed notice: the National Identity Card remains the essential document to present for voting.
