Mohamed Ezzahaoui takes over Morocco customs, Abdellatif Amrani leads treasury

Mohamed Ezzahaoui has been appointed director general of Morocco’s Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration, while Abdellatif Amrani has been confirmed as Treasurer General of the Kingdom following a government council decision.

The appointments were formalized under constitutional procedures and mark a leadership reshuffle across two key institutions responsible for public revenue management and state financial operations.

Ezzahaoui, previously responsible for resources and programming within the customs administration, replaces Amrani at the helm of the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration. His appointment follows years of internal experience within the institution, where he worked on operational planning and administrative coordination. The customs authority plays a central role in trade regulation, border control, and indirect tax collection, all of which contribute significantly to national revenue.

Amrani transitions to the Treasury General of the Kingdom after serving in multiple senior roles across Morocco’s public finance system. He had been acting head of the treasury since early 2026 after a leadership change. His career spans decades within customs and financial administration, including regional responsibilities in northern Morocco and senior management posts linked to modernization programs.

The Treasury General oversees public expenditure, state accounting, and the execution of government budgets. Amrani’s confirmation formalizes a transitional phase during which he managed responsibilities across both customs and treasury functions. His previous tenure included efforts to modernize customs procedures and introduce digital tools aimed at improving risk assessment and operational efficiency.

Budget Minister Fouzi Lekjaa presided over the installation ceremony at the customs headquarters, where he emphasized continuity in institutional reform and administrative stability. The government also confirmed additional senior appointments in education and parliamentary relations, reflecting a broader restructuring of top administrative positions across key ministries.

These changes come as Morocco continues to strengthen fiscal governance and expand reforms aimed at improving efficiency in revenue collection and public spending management. Both institutions remain central to the country’s economic strategy and budgetary balance.
