Morocco tourism reaches 15.7 million visitors by September 2026
Morocco’s tourism industry has maintained its upward trajectory in 2026, with 15.7 million tourists recorded between January and the end of September, according to figures released by the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy.
The latest performance represents a 5% increase compared with the same period in 2025, translating into more than 717,000 additional arrivals. The figures reinforce the sector’s position as one of the key drivers of Morocco’s economic and territorial development.
September delivers another strong performance
The growth accelerated during September, when Morocco received more than 1.5 million tourists. Arrivals during the month were up 8% year on year, demonstrating that demand for the destination remains resilient beyond the traditional high-season periods.
For tourism authorities, the September figures are particularly significant because they point to a broader expansion of Morocco’s appeal throughout the year rather than growth concentrated around peak travel periods.
The continued increase also reflects the country’s ability to sustain international demand while strengthening its position across different tourism markets.
26 million visitors targeted by 2030
Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor said the latest results underline the substantial long-term potential of the sector.
She stressed that reaching 26 million tourists by 2030 is becoming increasingly attainable, while emphasizing that future growth should not be measured solely by visitor numbers.
The next stage, according to the minister, will involve turning rising tourist flows into greater economic value, more employment and additional opportunities for communities across Morocco’s regions.
From visitor numbers to wider economic impact
The September performance places Morocco on a solid path toward its longer-term tourism ambitions. The challenge now is to ensure that continued growth translates into benefits across the wider tourism ecosystem, including accommodation, transport, handicrafts, restaurants, cultural activities and local services.
With 15.7 million arrivals already recorded by the end of September, Morocco enters the final months of 2026 with tourism continuing to expand at a steady pace. The latest figures strengthen the prospect of another record year while placing greater emphasis on the sector’s capacity to generate sustainable and geographically distributed value.
